In the early 2000s, as demand in the automotive industry sky-rocketed, discarded used tyres began to slowly pile up without an adequate solution for disposal, leading to potential fire hazards and the boom of pyrolysis plants which were soon found to be environmentally precarious. Of the 1.5 billion plus waste tyres generated each year, 6% are in India itself. The desire to find an eco-friendly, zero-waste process that not only ethically disposes and recycles waste tyres, but also provides employment to the marginalized, inspired the birth of Alpha Rubbers in Chingavanam town in 2003.
Over the last 19 years, the organization has continued to improve its ambient technology based process, provided a sustainable livelihood to over 100 individuals and successfully kept over 500,000 waste tyres from harmfully impacting the environment.
Promote environmental stewardship through responsible and zero-waste recycling of rubber tyres.
